The suspect in a Birmingham home invasion who was shot by the homeowner is now in custody. Birmingham police have not released his name.
Many details are not available about when and where the suspect was taken into custody. He's accused of forcing his way into a woman's house on the 7800 block of Sixth Avenue South Saturday.
Police say the man knocked on the woman's door asking if she had a pick up truck for sale. She told him "no" and he left. But that's when police say the man returned asking for water and forced his way into her house demanding money. According a police spokesman, the woman went to her purse for her debit card, pulled out her gun and shot him in the hand. He fled.
Saturday night, police searched hospitals for a man with a gunshot wound in the hand. He was later taken into custody.
Police say the woman is related to Birmingham police officer.
