Birmingham: Jeffco can shutdown Cooper Green services but....

Attorneys for the City of Birmingham told a bankruptcy judge Jefferson County may have the ability to shutdown inpatient and emergency room services at Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, but a failure to{}establish a transition plan for indigent patients is a problem. That's why it asked the court to keep the county from shutting down services in December as planned.

Birmingham is suing the county in an effort to keep services going at the hospital. The judge warned Birmingham's attorneys that the city may be forced to pay the county's legal bill.
