Birmingham leaders to address bond project status
Birmingham voters approved a $150 million bond referendum last year, and now many want to see it in action in their neighborhoods.
The bond project includes improving roads, sidewalks and parks. Councilor Johnathan Austin tells ABC 33/40 the city has sold $75 million in bonds. A scheduled obtained from a department head shows that current construction is underway on roads near Railroad Park, a new landfill and the Crossplex/Harris Arena. But more projects are still in the planning stages including improvements to streets in Woodlawn and both the 16th Street and 21st Street Bridges.
Mayor Bell and other city leaders are expected to give an official update of the bond projects during a town hall meeting Monday. It takes place at 5:30 p.m. at Hawkins Recreation Center.
