Birmingham man arrested for robbing man at gunpoint

Deputies in Jefferson County have made an arrest in connection with a robbery investigation.{}

Walter William Tate, 21, of Birmingham, is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery. He is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Deputies were called to Erwin Dairy Road, located between Fultondale and Tarrant, around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.{} The victim told deputies that he offered to help Tate after seeing him near a disabled car on the side of the road with its emergency lights flashing. Tate asked him to jump off his car battery, but when the victim told him he didn't have cables, the suspect pulled a gun and demanded money.{}

The victim was able to drive away and call for help.{} A second victim had also been robbed near the same location.{}
