Birmingham man charged with assault, shooting into occupied dwelling in New Castle
A Birmingham man has been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting in New Castle on Saturday.
Adrian Virshun Lockett, 27, has been charged with first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling after he fired two shotgun rounds into a home located in the 5300 block of Spruce Street, wounding a female in the leg.
Police were called to the residence around 2:30 a.m. and arrived to find a cousin of Lockett's 29-year-old wife suffering from a wound to her lower leg. A further investigation revealed that Lockett had been in an argument with his wife outside the house before she retreated inside the home, locking the front door behind her.
Lockett then retrieved a shotgun from his truck and proceeded to fire two shots into the front door. He then entered the home and demanded that his wife leave with him immediately. The married couple left the house, but Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies located Lockett at his home in North Birmingham a short time later.
The shooting victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Lockett is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $30,000.
