Birmingham man charged with capital murder in 53-year-old man's shooting death during burglary

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Police have arrested a Birmingham man in connection with Sunday's fatal shooting of a 53-year-old man, Lt. Sean Edwards announced Wednesday.Davarius McGee, 22, is charged with capital murder in the death of Arthur Mills, who was shot and killed while trying to prevent a burglary at his neighbor's home.According to police, Mills interrupted McGee as he was burglarizing a home in the 1800 block of 3rd Place SW. McGee allegedly shot the victim then fled the scene in a vehicle that was carjacked on June 11. Shortly after the shooting, officers spotted McGee driving the stolen car and gave chase. The suspect ditched the vehicle and attempted to elude police on foot, but he was captured moments later. Edwards said officers recovered a couple of items stolen during the burglary at Mills' neighbor's home.McGee, who is also charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held on on bonds totaling $120,000.
