11 injured after Birmingham MAX bus collides with SUV, crashes into Wells Fargo Bank

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Police are investigating an accident that sent nearly a dozen people to the hospital after a Birmingham MAX bus was struck by an SUV before crashing into the front door of a bank Tuesday morning. The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of 3rd Avenue South and 18th Street South, where the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority bus was sent careening into a Wells Fargo Bank after an accident involving a black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV.

Kimberly Moss tweeted the photo below (click image to enlarge) to ABC 33/40 showing the scene shortly after the incident.

Birmingham fire and rescue crews were called to the scene, where 11 people on board the bus were reported injured. The extent of the victims' injuries and the cause of the crash is not clear at this time.
