Birmingham operation nets multiple offenders

Birmingham Police made dozens of arrests this week at several traffic checkpoints. The West Precinct Task Force, BPD Neighborhood Enforcement Team and Operation Closeout Task Force Officers executed a two day operation at checkpoints in key areas{}along Bessemer Road. The operation took place during the evening hours of Tuesday, November 12th and Wednesday, November 13th.

Police netted offenders with traffic violations, criminal offenses and outstanding warrants. Officers also confiscated illegal drugs and guns. A total of 14 felony arrests were made with 25 charges and 26 misdemeanor arrests were made with 68 charges. In addition to the arrests, there were 48 traffic citations written. Also 4 weapons were seized and 3 vehicles were towed.

Birmingham Police Chief A. C. Roper said, "This operation shows that we must continue to engage those persons who refuse to comply with the law. We understand that there may be additional offenders in this and other areas of town and we will continue our mission to create safer neighborhoods throughout Birmingham."
