Birmingham police: Shooting in Smithfield community leaves 1 dead, 1 seriously injured
An early morning shooting in the Smithfield community Saturday left a Birmingham man dead and sent another man to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.
According to Sgt. Johnny Williams, officers responded to a report of a traffic accident at 903 6th Avenue South around 5:20 a.m. and arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a wrecked vehicle. Birmingham fire and rescue were called to the scene, where they pronounced 31-year-old William Daniels deceased before transporting the other victim to UAB Hospital.
After initial reports of the shooting occurring in Midfield, investigators later determined that the incident happened at 15 Graymont Avenue North.
