Uncle named suspect in 2-year-old's death
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
UPDATE: Birmingham Police report the 2-year-old involved in Saturday morning's shooting has died. Nazario Boykins, 2, died Saturday afternoon at Children's of Alabama just before 3:00 p.m. Police say the mother and child were shot by the mother's brother, Andre Boykins, Jr. , 22, during a domestic dispute.
An Attempted Murder warrant has been obtained against Andre Boykins Jr. Investigators anticipate to obtain a murder warrant for the dead of the suspect's nephew.
The mother is expected to recover from her injuries.
A mother and child are in serious condition after being shot at their home Saturday morning.
Officers responded to the 900 block of 8th Ave Southwest just after midnight. Once they arrived, they found a woman sitting in a chair, suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman's son, who is 2 years of age, had also been shot multiple times.
Both mother and child were transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. The 2-year-old was later taken to Children's of Alabama.
The female victim gave suspect information to police, which led to an arrest by police in Prattville. Investigators are coordinating the suspect's transfer back to Birmingham.
