The Birmingham Police Department has determined that the female arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a 10-month-old boy this week is a juvenile.
According to a news release from Sgt. Johnny Williams, the suspect was using an alias of a 19-year-old when she was arrested in Dallas, Tex. Tuesday night for the kidnapping of De'Anthony DeJuan Kelly. Police learned Thursday that she was under the age of 18, prompting the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office to revoke the felony adult kidnapping warrant. A new juvenile kidnapping warrant has been obtained against her, and she has since been transported from the Dallas County Jail to an area juvenile detention center.
The child was found unharmed and taken into protective custody while the Alabama Department of Human Resources makes travel arrangements to have him returned to the state.
Extradition procedures for the juvenile are still pending.
