Birmingham residents celebrate a German Christmas
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
If you spent some time on Second Avenue North in downtown Birmingham, Saturday, you might have experienced what Christmas is like in Germany.
Friends of German Language and Culture put on a German Christmas market, Saturday. It was set up like a market that you might find in German villages and towns during advent. There was music, arts and crafts and German cuisine. Organizers say the event helps promote German culture.
"Every German likes going to a Christmas market and this is kind of for the atmosphere," Diane Bimczok, said. "You have music, the smells, hot drinks...you meet friends. It's a nice thing to do, I think."
This is the second year for the event that the organization has put on the market.
