Birmingham students learn college financial tips

As summer break comes to close, some local high school students are revving up their school preparations.

Dozens of Birmingham-area students have been learning about the importance of saving for a college education. They've taken part in workshops called "Real Talk" at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Monday's session focused on scholarships and financial aid.

"The expenses that children take on when they are going to college, they need to know that there's options available to them to have money," Organizer Jordan Croft says.

Organizers say a total of about 80 students participated in the program.
