Birmingham will be DNC selection committee's first stop

Monday, a selection committee will arrive in Birmingham to see whether it should host the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Preparations are still underway to show the representatives what makes the city special.

Signs have gone up throughout the city, and city leaders are giving people the first glimpse of some special DNC 2016 buses on Instagram. {} Mayor William Bell and other leaders will welcome the committee, including DNC CEO Amy Dacey, to the Magic City for a two day tour. A sold out pitch party is planned at Iron City Monday night and a private event is also expected to take place at Regions Field.Cleveland removed itself from the running last week after it received the 2016 RNC. That means Birmingham is still up against New York City, Philadelphia, Columbus and Phoenix to host the event. The DNC selection committee will visit Columbus August 6-7, New York August 11-12, Philadelphia August 13-14 and Phoenix September 10-11.
