Birmingham Zoo helping others this holiday season

The Birmingham Zoo is wanting to give back to those in need this holiday season.

And you can help.

This weekend, Nov. 23 and Nov. 24, people going to the zoo can enjoy admission at half the cost, by bringing any canned or non-perishable food item. Those who donate a food item to the United Way Community Food Bank will pay $7 for adults, $4.50 for senior citizens 65 years or older and $4.50 for children ages two to 12.

Children under two-years-old will get in free.

The Birmingham Zoo is asking that all visitors bring one item per person in order to receive the discount.

The United Way Community Food Bank of Central Alabama serves people in need by gathering and storing food and household items to distribute through local partnering service agencies.

"This is just one of the many ways that the zoo gives back to the community that has supported the zoo for so many years," Birmingham Zoo President and CEO, Dr. William Foster said.

Again, the food drive and discounted prices will go through Sunday, Nov. 24.
