Birmingham's Global Mala Yoga for Peace Project
Birmingham's yoga community plans to celebrate National Yoga Month with a focus on peace, service and community.
More than 200 people are expected to gather at Vulcan Park and Museum on Saturday, September 22, at 8:00a.m.-10:00a.m. for Birmingham's 6th annual Global Mala Yoga for Peace Project.
This free event brings the community together to join the moving meditation of 108 sun salutations while raising awareness for world peace, community wellness and the power of selfless service.
Annie Damsky with Sweet Om Alabama explains that the mala is a 108 beaded garland that is used during meditation. The Global Mala Yoga for Peace Project is an international event that signifies the power a group can harness when individual intentions are each linked for the same cause.
The event is presented Sweet Om Alabama, which is a group of yoga teachers, students and studio owners. The yoga practitioners offer the benefits of yoga to people who might not have access to them due to location, income or accessibility.
The event will also benefit Alabama Possible to aid the Alabama Poverty Project.
