BJCTA selects new Executive Director

The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) voted, Tuesday, to hire Ann Dawson-August to serve as its new Executive Director.{} The decision comes after a nationwide search to recruit an executive director that could lead BJCTAs efforts to develop the best transit system in the nation. {}

"The board was committed to hiring an individual with experience, that was knowledgeable about all facets of transit, and who had a proven track record of success managing and operating a transit system," said Joyce E. Brooks, chairman of the BJCTA board of directors.

"We are confident in Mrs. August ability to lead the efforts in building a transit system that the entire community can be proud of."

Dawson-August has worked over 30 years in the transportation industry.{} She is{}currently the{}Executive Director for the Santee Wateree Regional Transportation Authority in South Carolina.{} Prior to that, she spent 13 years at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, which is the fifth largest transit authority in the U. S.{}

"I am looking forward to serving as the Executive Director of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority," .{}

"Transportation is my passion, and has been for the past 32 years.{} I am truly ready to hit the ground running, and to start establishing more partnerships that will help the BJCTA Team turn the page and create a new chapter in Alabama's transit history," said Ann Dawson-August.

She is expected to take her post in January.
