Blount County girl, 17, dies from blow to the chest during soccer practice

The Blount County Coroner's Office has confirmed a 17-year-old girl died Thursday night from an injury sustained during a private soccer practice.

According to the coroner, the victim was participating in a co-ed practice around 6 p.m. when she suffered a fatal injury, blunt force trauma to the chest, in an accidental collision with a male player.

Both players were competing for the ball and didn't have sight of each, which ultimately led to both players colliding. The girl took a direct blow to her sternum from the boy's head and she immediately collapsed.{}

The girl was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Her death has been ruled accidental and there are no plans for an autopsy.
