Board meeting called to decide future of Jefferson county school superintendent

Jefferson County Board of Education has called a special meeting to determine a revision to the superintendent's contract. The meeting is slated for Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the board room at the central office building. Superintendent Dr. Stephen Nowlin announced in late April that the board had offered to buy out the remainder of his contract. He began his tenure as superintendent in January 2013 and has two years remaining on his contract. Neither the board nor Nowlin has said to this point exactly why he will be departing. The only explanation has been a difference in philosophy. Vi Parramore, president of the Jefferson county American Federation of Teachers union, told ABC3340, "Our school distrist is large. We must have a leader who listens and knows how to bring people together around common goals. It is my opinion that Dr. Nowlin was not a good fit as our superintendent. I know many employees share my views."
