The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has identified the body found near Miles College Thursday morning as 28-year-old Nathaniel Williams Jr., the Fairfield Police Department reports.
Officers were dispatched to an alley in the 500 block between 55th Street and 56th Street around 9:15 a.m. today on a report of a dead body. Upon arriving, police found Williams unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Evidence gathered in and around the scene that Williams was placed at the location by some unknown suspects. Following a record check, investigators discovered that the victim was reported missing late Wednesday night from his home at 320 Oakmont Street to the Birmingham Police Department.
According to Birmingham police records, verified by Fairfield Police detectives, evidence of blood was found at the front of Williams' home. Witnesses had also reported hearing gun shots in the area around the time the victim went missing.
Homicide detectives from Fairfield and Birmingham Police Departments are working to identify any possible suspects and motives. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 205-786-4111.
