Book Bonanza underway: Books for schools

The University of Alabama is kicking off the annual "Book Bonanza" program.

The plan is to give more than $5,000 worth of books to schools in Alabama's Black Belt region. The books will be donated this December. The school is hoping to give to at least five schools. Eligible counties include{}Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Crenshaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Sumter and Wilcox. University officials will make a decision on which schools get the books, depending on need.

The program began in 2009.{}The annual event is conducted by the university's School of Library and Information Studies. The books come from publishers who send the books to professors at Alabama.
