BP and U. S. may be close to a settlement over 2010 oil spill

According to several reports, it is possiblethat, on Thursday, The Department of Justice could announce a settlement withoil giant BP, relating to the company's responsibility for the massive Gulf oilspill in 2010.{}

The British oil company said in a statementWednesday that it is in "advanced talks" with U. S. agencies but no settlementhad been reached.

The deal is expected to include BP admitting to negligence that led tothe spill, and a payment of fines totaling billions of dollars.{} Attorney General Eric Holder may make theannouncement himself in New Orleans.
