BPD joins nation in honoring fallen officers

The Birmingham Police Department will honor fallen Birmingham Police Officers who died in the line of duty with a peace officers memorial service on short 20th Street in front of City Hall.{} The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 9 AM.{} The public is welcome to attend.In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day,{} and that week as National Police Week.{} Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.{} National Police Week has grown into a series of events, to honor the thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers.
