BPD Patrol Unit hit while working car fire

Second Car that Struck BPD Car

A Birmingham police patrol unit was struck while on the scene of a car fire at the Tallapoosa Street Exit on I-2059.

Fire fighters were working to extinguish a Mercedes Benz that had caught fire when a second vehicle struck the BPD Unit on the scene.

The officer was not in the car at the time. The driver of that vehicle was not hurt, but their car did leave the roadway.

Both the driver in the car fire and the accident refused medical treatment.

The cause of both accidents remains under investigation.
