Braves closing in on land purchase for new stadium

The Atlanta Braves are closing in on a land purchase where the organizations new stadium will be built.{} The club may close on the deal Friday.

The 57 acre parcel near the Cumberland Mall could cost $34 million.

In November 2013, the Cobb County Commission approved construction of a new $672 million stadium that could be ready for the start of the 2017 season.

For the first time since the team moved to Georgia from Wisconsin in 1966, the Braves will not call downtown Atlanta its home.
