Brookwood man arrested in Hueytown, charged with robbing elderly woman in Tuscaloosa

Justin Taylor Lemonds

The Tuscaloosa Police Department reports Thursday that a Brookwood man has been charged in connection to the robbery of an elderly woman last weekend in the parking lot of University Mall.

Justin Taylor Lemonds, 22, has been charged with one count of third-degree robbery after he allegedly robbed a 71-year-old woman of her purse outside the mall in Tuscaloosa on March 16.

Police say Lemonds knocked the woman to the ground, causing her to hit her head on a vehicle's bumper before getting away with the stolen purse. The victim was taken to DCH for treatment of her injuries.

During a search for Lemonds, criminal investigators learned that he had been arrested on theft charges in Hueytown Wednesday.

Investigators were able to place a hold on the robbery suspect via the Hueytown Police Department and Lemonds was transported this afternoon to Tuscaloosa for questioning. Police found probable cause to charge him with the crime and he is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
