Buddy Poppies remember veterans in Tuscaloosa
TUSCALOOSA - AL —
People in Tuscaloosa are honoring veterans as Monday's celebration of Veteran's Day nears.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022 and its Ladies Auxiliary distributed Buddy Poppies at several locations, Saturday, around town.
Buddy Poppies are artificial flowers that are hand-made by disabled veterans. Children and veterans hand them out every Memorial Day and Veteran's Day to the public and ask them to wear them to show support for veterans and their families.
"This is important," veteran's wife, Linda Turner, said. "They did it so others wouldn't have to."
Last year, roughly 1,000 people signed up.
The Buddy Poppies were free to the public, but people were encouraged to donate money.
