Burglary victim shoots at suspect while trying to get away

Jerry Washington Jr. has been arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, two counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Attempted Murder.{} It is believed that Washington was caught in the act when the victim returned to his home in the 700 block of Warrior-Jasper Road and found the suspect in his 19 year old sons vehicle Wednesday night.

The suspect was tracked to his car which was parked in a nearby parking lot.{} After an altercation with the son the suspect tried to drive off and he knocked the son down with his car.{} That is when the victim fired two shots at the suspect and missed.{} The victim was transported to UAB Hospital with minor injuries.

While on the scene, deputies were advised by Warrior Police that Jerry Lee Washington Jr. was at their office to file a report for criminal mischief regarding damage to his car windows. Deputies went to Warrior Police Department and found Washington to be the suspect in this case. He was arrested and placed in the Jefferson County Jail.

Deputies investigating the burglary discovered that a shed owned by the victim and another car had been broken into as well.
