Businessman wants to purchase Carver cemetery
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
The bankruptcy trustee for George Washington Carver Cemetery filed documents to sell the property to Cedrick McMillian.
The cemetery abruptly closed in September and in October, the owner filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in federal court citing between $500,000 and $1 million in liabilities and less than $100,000 in assets.
According to a "Verification of Creditor Matrix" document signed by company president Louie Reese III, 38 creditors are listed, some of which include the Alabama Department of Revenue, the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Alabama Commission of Insurance.
