Bystander injured in gunfire in Center Point, suspect arrested

Jefferson County sheriff deputies are investigating a shooting that injured a bystander.{} It happened around 4:00 Tuesday afternoon on the 1800 block of Bond Circle NE in Center Point.{} Deputies say two juveniles got into an argument with an adult male at Center Point High School after he nearly hit one of them with his car.{} A school resource officer asked the male driver to leave the property.{}

A short time later, the two juveniles were in a car at the intersection of Martinique Drive and Polly Reed Road waiting in traffic.{} The adult driver, from the earlier confrontation, drove by and fired a shot at them.{} The bullet missed the juveniles, but struck a bystander who was walking near the road.{}

Deputies say the 53 year old victim suffered a gunshot wound to his head.{} The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury. The 21 year old suspect is expected to be formally charged Wednesday with first degree assault and two counts of attempted murder.
