A Calera liquor store ceased its drive-thru operations after the ABC Board told the store owner it was illegal.
"It has hurt my business, and I'd like to get it back," said Robert Rourke, who owns the store with his father.
R & R Wine and Liquor opened several months ago and offered a drive-thru option for customers.
"People are happy that they don't have to get out and stand in line," said Rourke.
Rourke said the city gave his father approval to open the store and offer the drive-thru option. He claimed someone from the ABC Board said he could operate the window if he had city approval, but Calera's mayor said the city only gave the store permission to sell alcohol.
A representative from the ABC Board's legal department said operating a drive-thru liquor store is illegal and has been for at least ten years.
Rourke plans to seek legal advice to fight the ABC Board's order.
