      Candidates seek to win over voters in Birmingham runoffs

      Candidates for four Birmingham municipal seats will square off again{}in runoff elections Tuesday.

      For City Council District 2, incumbent Kim Rafferty faces challenger Rolanda Hollis. Former city councilor Leroy Bandy and Marcus Lundy will face off for the District 9 seat, which City Council President Roderick Royal is leaving.

      On the school board, business owner{}Sherman Collins will go against former Midfield superintendent Douglas Ragland for District 1. Retired principal Gwendolyn Thomas Bell and Cheri A. Gardner will vie for the District 6 school board seat.

      Twenty-one percent of registered voters in Birmingham cast ballots in the August election.

      The runoff is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8.
