Case from 1899 helped secured VictoryLand search warrant

A{}century old gambling case helped the attorney general get a rare search warrant to raid VictoryLand.

A{}Macon County judge initially refused to issue the warrant, so Attorney General Luther Strange went to the Alabama Supreme Court.

Strange's argument was based on 1899 case. In that case,{}a justice of peace incorrectly interpreted the law and denied an arrest warrant. The Supreme Court then issued the warrant.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court made the same decision to ignore the lower court and issue the warrant.
