Center Point woman arrested for identity theft of elderly couple

Latoya Andrea Conley (Jefferson County Jail)

Latoya Andrea Conley, 28, of Center Point, is currently in the Jefferson County Jail after being charged with two counts of identity theft of an elderly couple.

The victims employed Conley as a care taker, but in May, the couple became suspicious of missing groceries and her use of their debit card without their permission so they called the Sheriff's Office to file a report.

An initial investigation did not find enough evidence to support the claim, but on August 20, the couple again called after being notified by Citibank that someone was trying to receive cash advances on a credit card in their name.{} The couple did not own a credit card so Citibank froze the account immediately and began an investigation alongside Sheriff's Office investigators.

Information retrieved on the fraudulent account revealed Conley to be the one that opened the account and search warrants were obtained for her home and car.{} More evidence of the theft was found during those searches and warrants were issued for her arrest.

Working with the victims, Citibank and local merchants, investigators obtained two arrest warrants for Identity Theft against Conley and one arrest warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Investigators determined that Conley had worked as a care giver for at least three different agencies over several years sitting for elderly and hospice patients.{}

She has been charged with two counts of Identity Theft and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Her bond is set at $40,000.
