BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - Prosecutors in south Alabama say an 80-year-old convicted child rapist has been sentenced to three life sentences plus two consecutive 10 year terms.
Baldwin County District Attorney's officials said in a statement Thursday that Giuseppe LoPorto was sentenced after a weeklong trial on charges of sodomy, sexual assault, and rape.
District Attorney Hallie Dixon says LoPorto repeatedly abused a child over the course of nearly a decade.
LoPorto was featured on "America's Most Wanted" in 2002 and was arrested in 2005 in The Netherlands. Prosecutors say LoPorto fled when he was released on bond and spent time in Europe writing a book that attacked the American judicial system.
Prosecutors say LoPorto refused to accept responsibility for the abuse, and made accusations against the girl's family.
