Law enforcement recovered the body of a missing Chilton County man this morning. He's been identified as Bill Griffin. Griffin is said to be in his 60's.His body was pulled from Lake Mitchell just after 10:00{}a.m.{}Sunday morning. Crews had to call off the search Saturday night due to darkness.{}Witnesses say they saw Griffin fall out of the boat. They say he was not wearing a life jacket.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis says four dive teams took part in the search for Griffin. "We average one drowning a year during the summer that we respond to in Chilton County," says Davis.Griffin went missing in Lake Mitchell around noon on Saturday. The Chilton County Sheriff's Office with the help of surrounding agencies took part in the search. The search took place near Lay Dam. The water was roughly eight to{}ten feet deep and presented its own challenges.{} "Visibility was poor, as it is in Alabama rivers," Davis explains. "Once we notified (Alabama Power) company that we had a situation on the water, they shut the dam down, which helped us with currents. But most drowning victims are (found){}in the general area where they went in." Once Griffin's body was recovered he was taken to the Chilton County coroner's office, where an autopsy will take place. It is unsure what happened the moments before Griffin went in the water. Davis says his thoughts and prayers are with the family"We've done what we can do to try and give some closure. But it's going to take the preacher, loved ones and family to make it from day to day."{} Right now, the coroner will investigate to see if there were any health issues that could have led Griffin to fall into the water. Griffin's family was not available for comment.{}They spent the rest of the day with their pastor.
