Cities flipping the switch on Christmas

It will look a lot more like Christmas by the end of the week. Tree lighting ceremonies and parades will take place throughout the area starting Monday.The festive week begins with Hoover's tree lighting Monday at 5 p.m. in front of city hall. The fourth grade choir from Trace Crossings Elementary School and dancers from the Alabama Dance Academy will perform.

Pelham lights its tree at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Pelham Civic Complex ice rink.

Tuesday, Birmingham's tree in Linn Park will come alive at 5 p.m..

An hour later on Tuesday, Miles College will flip the switch on its tree in Centennial Plaza near the campus' front entrance. A parade led by the Purple Marching Machine and choir will follow.Vincent holds its parade Thursday at 6 p.m.. It starts at the high school.

Clanton's Christmas parade will kick off from downtown Friday at 6 p.m..

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Alabaster will have its parade.

Helena's parade begins at 1 p.m. Saturday. ABC 33/40's Brian Peters is emceeing the event.

On Sunday, some roads will be closed going into Mountain Brook Village for its 3 p.m. parade.
