City enters into agreement for Birmingham Crossplex development
Give it some time and 38 acres surrounding the Birmingham Crossplex could look quite different than it does now.
City leaders entered into an agreement Tuesday with Atlanta-based Russell New Urban Development company.
Here's the plan: The developer proposes putting retail, entertainment and other commercial centers on the property. It is also considering a hotel and a medical center in the area. Council gave the company six months to create a master plan before it makes a final decision.
"Give them time to check out the property and see whether this is something they actually think they can accomplish," Councilor Valerie Abbott.
Under the agreement--the city would give $2.5 million in infrastructure support, and it will provide up to $100,000 in pre-development costs for the project.
