City of Birmingham to collect items for Oklahoma relief

Birmingham is taking up a collection, to reach out To Moore, Oklahoma.

Mayor William Bell says, "Ourthoughts and prayers are with those involved in the tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma.Our people are the most generous in the nation and the City will be workingwith the Christian Service Mission to collect items to send out. So many peoplereached out to Birminghamduring our tornado devastation and we want to be sure to pay that help forwardto those who need it."

Collectionvolunteers will be on-site Thursday, Friday of this week and Tuesday, Wednesdayand Thursday of next week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day in front ofBoutwell Auditorium.

On Saturday, the City will collect from 10 a.m. until 4:00p.m.

Items needed in Oklahoma include: workgloves, vinyl gloves, examination gloves, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, coolingcloths, hats, baseball caps, safety glasses, masks, trash bags - large heavyduty, tarps, rope - nylon and synthetic, tent pegs, air mattresses, blow upbeds, paper towels, toilet paper, work boots, band aids, sunscreen, mosquitorepellent, lip balm, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, {}and baby wipes.
