City of Gardendale discussing whether to break away from the Jefferson Co. school system

Could the city of Gardendale manage to become its own school system?

That's the question the city council and mayor hope to answer.{} They will discuss the feasibility of becoming its own system during the council meeting Monday night.

"I have not even decided if I support the move," says Gardendale Mayor Othell Phillips.{} He added, "There are a lot of factors that play a part in making a decision like this."

Phillips tells ABC 33/40 that City Councilor Alvin Currington recently brought up the idea of Gardendale breaking from the Jefferson County School System.
