Civil rights and hate crimes symposium

The US Attorney's office will present a day long {}civil rights and hate crimes symposium Thursday, September 13 at the Harbert Center on Fourth Avenue North in Birmingham.

{}Keynote speaker will be Wayne Flynt, historian and author. The topic of his address: Evolving Civil Rights - The Past and Future.

Another presenter is Albany county, Wyoming Sheriff David O'Malley. He investigated the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old college student beaten to death because he was gay.

Attendance is free and open to the public, however, space is limited.
