CollegeFirst Students Celebrate Finishing Program

Birmingham, Ala._ More than 100 high school students across Alabama will celebrate their completion of a college-preparatory program called CollegeFirst. Students from Birmingham City, Jefferson County, Hewitt-Trussville and Shelby County Schools participated in the program. CollegeFirst aims to get students ready to take Advanced Placement courses when they return to high school, so they can receive college credit.{}

{}{}{}{}For three weeks, high school students received rigorous training from college students under the direction of an Advanced Placement instructor. Participating volunteers came from UAB, University of Alabama, and Samford University. The courses helped students to improve their knowledge and skills in critical thinking and writing.
