Commercial fire at automobile recycling center in East Birmingham
The Birmingham Fire Department was called to a commercial fire around 1:47 p.m. Tuesday after several vehicles caught fire inside a automobile scrap business.
Battalion Chief Donald Jones reported a total of six vehicles were on fire at AllStar Recycling and fire fighters were able to extinguish the flames within 15 minutes of their arrival.
Jones said the fire is believed to have started when from a torch used in the scrapping process. There are no reports of injuries and the building did not experience any structural damage.
"There's no damage to the structure. All the damage was to the automobiles inside." Jones said.
Owners of the business were talking to fire investigators following the incident and were unavailable for comment.
