Conference USA football expanded to 14 teams before last season.
The league could be interested is more in the near future.
C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky says further expansion is an attractive possibility.
"We've modeled it at 16, and it does kind of create some divisions that are a little more geographically connected," Banowsky told CBS Sports. "We haven't acted on it. I think personally a larger conference is better because you get some efficiencies, you get the benefit of a bigger group."
A 16 team league could help C-USA reduce travel costs and create natural geographic rivalries.
