Construction camp for girls a success

Dozens of young women from across Alabama are proving you don't have to be a man to have a career in construction.

These ladies are taking part in the Girls Can construction camp. The camp is in its fourth year.

Its purpose is to expose young women to the different trades, including electrical, carpentry, welding, design and drafting.

Also, to show that they have the skills necessary to have a career in this growing industry.

Katlyn Coley, a camp instructor said, "It's a really big job opportunity for anything in the construction field. Especially for a woman. Anything that's out of the ordinary for a many to do. It's actually very fun an interesting."

The camp is sponsored by Alabama Power and Go Build Alabama.

The camp had spaces for 20 girls. 50 applied.
