In a Jefferson County Commission committee of a whole meeting Wednesday morning, Commissioner David Carrington said a Fiscal Year 2011 draft audit reveals a $16 million deficit for Cooper Green Mercy Hospital.

Commissioners spent the majority of the{}morning{}meeting discussing the hospital's{}January 1 transition{}into an urgent care facility. Their cause for concern is the number of appointments patients have missed. Roughly 1,000 people failed to show up for scheduled appointments.

The county plans to launch a PR campaign in February, but details have not been released.
