Corrections officer among 6 arrested in probe into major meth operation
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Six people, including an Alabama state prison guard and two inmates, have been arrested in a major methamphetamine operation.
Federal officials announced the arrests Thursday in Montgomery. They say more arrests are expected.
Drug Enforcement Administration agent Clay Morris says an investigation began in 2012 into an operation bringing methamphetamine to central and north Alabama. He says the two inmates who were arrested were believed to be using contraband cellphones to aid the drug distribution operation from prison. The prison guard was stopped in Oklahoma with 30 pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle. Morris says the state prison system helped with the investigation.
The six suspects are in jail. Court records don't indicate that any of them have attorneys yet.
