Crime Stoppers announces record-breaking success in July

While Crime Stoppers{}of Metro Alabama continues{}its effort to help law enforcement fight crime and keep our communities safer, the program is taking a moment to celebrate its success.

July 2013 was the most successful crime-fighting month in the history of Crime Stoppers. Twenty two cases{}were solved, and more than $10,000 in cash was awarded.

Last month, Birmingham police solved three homicides with the help of anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. Two of the homicide cases contain Capital Murder charges. Another tip helped Hoover Police detectives solve an armed bank robbery.

Thirteen{}suspects were arrested for crimes in Birmingham, Hoover, Jefferson County, and St. Clair County. The crimes include homicides, robberies, burglaries, drug trafficking and thefts.

"It's really exciting, and it gives me encouragement for the future when I see the number of cases and the types of crimes," said JCSO Sgt. Brian Allison. "The program works{}as long as it's being used, and this month is proof that the public is using this program."

Crime Stoppers was established in 1981 and is a partnership with the community, ABC 33/40 and law enforcement. Tipsters remain anonymous no matter which method{}used{}to submit a tip. Each tipster receives a private code number, which will later be used{}to claim a cash reward should{}the tip lead to an arrest. Crime Stoppers cannot call tipsters to testify in court.
