No Deal: Martin won't fill-in for Hamlin

A deal that would have allowed Mark Martin to fill in for injured Denny Hamlin fell through.

Joe Gibbs Racing announced a deal with Martin's team, Michael Waltrip Racing on Thursday. One day later, the agreement is off which means Martin will remain in his MWR car and Brian Vickers will race in JGR's 11 car that is usually reserved for Hamlin.

Denny Hamlin injured his lower back in a crash in the sprint cup race in California last weekend.{}The injury will force him to miss at least five races.

In a confusing twist, Vickers is scheduled to drive Martin's car for MWR at Martinsville (VA) next week. That is still the case, and Martin will drive Hamlin's car for JGR. Then the drivers will swap back the following weekend.
