December is National Fruit Cake Month

If one of your favorite desserts is fruit cakes, be glad it's December!

That's right, December is National Fruitcake Month. A whole 31 days is dedicated to the admiration of the nut and candied fruit culinary concoction.{}

You can blame the ancient Romans for the invention of the fruitcake. The first known recipe included pomegranate seeds, raisins and pine nuts.{}

Traditional fruitcakes were soaked in brandy to preserve them and prevent mold, though most mass-produced fruitcakes don't come with alcohol these days.{}
